Imagine a group of people, a society, forming a unit on its own. This society consists of single parts, of individuals. Each individual (square) is unique and an autonomous unit. All individuals are connected to a group (by lateral lines) and communicate with each other in their very own language (different shapes of felt spread over the squares). They adjust their type of communication to their counterpart. The group is not rigid, but can be augmented and linked with new individuals (squares) or groups.
